Rumor: Sony Ericsson Releasing Massive Android Phone This Fall

June 06, 10 by Miles

Engadget is reporting this morning that Sony Ericsson is set to release a massive 5.5” Android smart phone/tablet this coming fall.

Leaked shots were released this morning with the phone featuring a full qwerty keyboard and a 5.5” display. The details are very scarce on this right now, but judging from the leaked photo above, this Sony Ericsson device is going to be a monster.

The tipster that Engadget has, who they say is reliable, says that the phone is running Android 2.1, and that this prototype is just in the low end driver testing phase. I would hope they really push to get 2.2 on this device, as something like this needs all the power/speed/features it can get.

We thought the HTC Evo was big with its 4.3” display, but this new device will dwarf it. This is also bigger than the 5” Dell Streak that is soon coming to the U.S market unlocked for $500. I have a hard time believing either of these will be very pleasurable to carry around. I think it’s time to whip out the murses, gentlemen.

I am wondering about the layout of the phone as well, it seems more like a laptop with the way that the keyboard comes out. It also looks more like a feature phone with the extreme 45* looking angle of the display/keyboard. The keys on this thing look amazing and really easy to press, that is, if you can reach them all the way across the keyboard.

Hopefully more details emerge about this phone/tablet soon, if they do, we will keep you up to date.
